The Seniors Program Team
As a Seniors Program Worker, the role encompasses being at the heart of efforts to support and engage with the senior members of the community. Here are some of the key responsibilities involved:
1. Multicultural Activities and Experiences
- Planning and Organizing: Planning and organizing a diverse range of community-based multicultural activities and experiences for seniors. This includes community lunches, ESL and skill-building classes, exercise groups, and crafts.
2. Building Community Connections
- Networking: Building relationships with community groups and networks to increase connections with seniors in the neighbourhood.
3. Seniors Advisory Committee
- Support and Collaboration: Working closely with the Seniors Advisory Committee to identify community needs and interests and incorporating them into programming.
4. Promoting Kiwassa
- Community Ambassador: Promoting and representing Kiwassa and its Seniors Program in the community.
5. Participant-Centric Approach
- Needs Assessment: Assessing participant needs and abilities and ensuring that activities are appropriate and inclusive.
6. Program Management
- Records and Reporting: Maintaining program and participant records and developing reports for supervisors and funders.
7. Program Evaluation
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluating the program, in collaboration with the Seniors Program Coordinator, to ensure its effectiveness and relevance.
8. Team Collaboration
- Collaborative Spirit: Working collaboratively as part of the Kiwassa Seniors Program Team and with other Kiwassa programs and community partners.
9. Registration Support
- Efficient Processes: Supporting program and event registration to ensure seamless participation.
10. Safety Assurance
- Safety First: Ensuring participant safety and upholding safety standards as per Kiwassa requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates will need:
- A post-secondary certificate in a relevant discipline.
- A minimum of six (6) months’ experience in a service delivery setting, with at least three months’ experience working with seniors.
- Emergency First Aid certification or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Fluency in Spanish or Chinese would be an asset.
- Ability to work within a multicultural/intercultural environment.
- Current Criminal Record check required.
- Full vaccination against COVID-19.
- Proficiency in computer skills.
Reporting Structure
In the role of Seniors Program Worker, the reporting structure involves reporting to the Seniors Program Coordinator. While there won’t be direct staff reports, candidates will supervise volunteers and practicum students regularly.
Job Details
- Salary: $23.99 per hour.
- Benefits: Enjoy extended health and dental benefits, including employer-paid LTD, paid vacation starting at three weeks per year, plus 12 paid sick days, and a Municipal Pension Plan.
