Hello there, fellow road warriors! If you’ve got trucking in your blood and a sense of adventure in your heart, then have I got news for you. The picturesque city of Surrey in beautiful British Columbia is offering an amazing job opportunity that will make your eyes pop! Let me tell you more about it.

Salary

We’re not talking peanuts here. The good folks in Surrey are offering a hefty $28.00 hourly, for 40 hours per week. I mean, who says trucking ain’t a noble profession? Make a quick calculation and you’ll see it’s a handsome yearly payout.

Terms of Employment

Trust me, this isn’t one of those “I’ve got good news and bad news” type of deals. The job is of a permanent nature, which means you get your own truck, route and what’s more, it’s a full-time gig.

Languages

Okay, hombres, you need to be fluent in English for this one. Buddy, you’re gonna be dealing with tons of different folks on your routes, so having a way with words is part of the package.

Education

Wait, don’t start panicking. They’re not asking for a PhD in Astrophysics. All it takes is a secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Easy peasy, right?

Experience

Here’s where it gets a bit tricky. They do want someone who has between 1 to 7 months of truck driving experience. But let’s face it, everyone has to start somewhere.

Responsibilities

This job offers a panoply of responsibilities. But let’s break it down:

  • You’re going to have to have some thick skin when dealing with customers’ complaints or concerns. It comes with the territory, but hey, every job has its minor annoyances, right?
  • You’ll be driving as part of a two-person team or a convoy, so get ready to make some friends… or at least learn how to tolerate someone for extended periods.
  • You’ll handle the loading and unloading duties.
  • Overseeing the vehicle’s condition is your job, dude. That includes checking tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
  • Paperwork — recall cargo info, hours of service, distance travelled, fuel consumption, and more.
  • Did I mention safety? There’s a bucket load of it! Like, ensuring the safety and security of your cargo, performing pre-trip, en route and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Plus, a bit of preventive maintenance to keep things running smoothly.

Credentials

By the way, you’ll need a Class 1 or A Driver’s License. So, if you don’t have one yet, better get on that pronto!

Experience and Specialization

Beyond the driving bit, you’ll need to know things like:

  • Documentation Knowledge – That includes accident or incident reports, driver’s logbook, trip reports, maintenance and repair reports, and trans-border documentation.
  • Transportation/travel experience, specifically long-haul and provincial/territorial.
  • Additional security and safety practices: A valid passport, criminal record check, driver’s validity licence check, and don’t forget the drug test. Is your head spinning yet?

Additional Information

You must also:

  • Drive a manual transmission vehicle.
  • Be willing to travel cross-border, internationally, for extended periods, and overnight (pajamas and toothbrush not included).

Work conditions and Physical Capabilities

You’ll be tested in areas like:

  • Attention to detail.
  • Handling heavy loads.
  • Physically demanding tasks and repetitive tasks.
  • Sitting for extended periods (guess squats won’t be an option here).

And you better bring your own gear:

  • Cellular phone, hard hat, and steel-toed safety boots.

And because every truck posse needs a shining star, they’re looking for those efficient interpersonal skills, excellent oral communication, flexibility, organized, and also a team player. Sounds like you? If so, rev up those engines and hurry up to apply for this trucking opportunity in Surrey, BC!
